Blepharitis and meibomian gland disease refer to an inflammatory process that occurs in certain patients along their eyelid margin and eyelashes. The inflammation results in the eyelids becoming red, crusty, thickened, and uncomfortable. This condition is strongly associated with the development of dry eye disease as well.


The diagnosis of blepharitis and meibomian gland disease is made from a good clinical exam paying close attention to the eyelids and eyelashes.
